14K gold price per gram

A step-by-step calculation in lei, from the pure gold price to the counter price.

A gram of 14K gold contains 58.5% pure gold. So its value is the price of a gram of pure gold multiplied by 0.585. The price you see in a shop is different, because it includes other costs too. Below we explain each step, with an example in lei.

Step 1: the price of a gram of pure gold

The international gold price is quoted in dollars per troy ounce (31.1035 grams). Divided by 31.1035 and multiplied by the leu–dollar rate, it becomes the price of a gram of 24K gold in lei. The details are in Spot gold, the troy ounce and the gram.

In our example we use 600 lei per gram for 24K gold. This is only an example, not today’s price. You will find the current price on our home page.

Step 2: the gold value of a gram of 14K

14K gold has a fineness of 585, which means 585 parts of pure gold in every 1,000. The rest are alloy metals such as silver, copper or zinc.

600 lei × 0.585 = 351 lei per gram.

This is the value of the gold it contains, not a buying or selling price. Colour does not change the calculation: yellow, white and rose 14K gold contain the same amount of gold. At 600 lei per gram for 24K, the values are:

  • 24K (fineness 999): about 600 lei/g

  • 22K (fineness 916): 549.60 lei/g

  • 18K (fineness 750): 450 lei/g

  • 14K (fineness 585): 351 lei/g

Step 3: why scrap gold is bought below this value

A scrap gold buyer has to test, melt and refine the metal. That is why the offer is slightly below the value of the gold it contains.

At Ervam Gold, the indicative rates are spot minus 5% for individuals and spot minus 3% for companies. In our example:

  • individual: 351 × 0.95 = 333.45 lei per gram;

  • company: 351 × 0.97 = 340.47 lei per gram.

A 3-gram 14K gold ring without stones would therefore be worth about 1,000 lei to an individual. The final price is confirmed after testing and weighing. You can run your own numbers with the scrap gold calculator.

Step 4: why new jewellery costs more

The price of new jewellery also starts from the gold value, but it adds:

  • workmanship, meaning manufacturing and finishing;

  • the shop’s margin;

  • VAT, which is 21% in Romania in 2026.

If workmanship and margin came to 60 lei per gram, the calculation would be: (351 + 60) × 1.21 = 497.31 lei per gram. Complex, stone-set or handmade designs carry higher workmanship.

In short

  • 14K gold value: 24K price × 0.585, in the example 351 lei/g

  • Scrap gold, individual: value × 0.95, in the example 333.45 lei/g

  • Scrap gold, company: value × 0.97, in the example 340.47 lei/g

  • New jewellery: (value + workmanship and margin) × 1.21, in the example about 497 lei/g
